The East Block is part of the parliamentary buildings in Ottawa. This beautiful building was build in 1866 and was intitially where the entire public service for Canada was located. Times have changed. This scene is set in the springtime when the lilacs are blossoming and everyone rejoices in the riot of colour.

L'édifice de l'Est fait partie des édifices du Parlement à Ottawa. Ce magnifique bâtiment a été construit en 1866 et a été où toute la fonction publique pour le Canada a été localisé. Les temps ont changé. Cette scène se déroule au printemps lorsque les lilas sont en fleurs et tout le monde se réjouit dans la débauche de couleurs.

Sunny winter morning on canal / Matin d'hiver ensoleillée au bord du canal

The outdoor skating season on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa will soon be over for another year. This winter has been milder than normal with relatively little snowfall. Conditions on the canal, however, have been pretty good. This scene looks north towards the Laurier Street Bridge, the Parliament Buildings, the Château Laurier and the Gatineau Hills. I took a walk one morning and was struck by the beauty of this panorama with the sun streaming through the trees over the frozen canal. I've been working on this oil painting for a few weeks and feel that its completed now.

La saison de patinage en plein air sur le canal Rideau, à Ottawa, sera bientôt fini pour une autre année. Cet hiver a été plus doux que la normale avec des chutes de neiges relativement peu. Les conditions sur le canal, cependent, ont été plutôt bonnes. Cette scène s'etend vers le nord vers le pont de la rue Laurier, les édifices du Parlement, le Château Laurier, et les collines de Gatineau. Je me suis promené un matin et j'étais frappé par la beauté de ce panorama, avec le soleil qui brillait à travers les arbres sur le canal gelé. J'ai travaillé sur cette peinture à huile pendant quelques semaines et je sens que c'est maintenant terminé.

Parliament buildings from Hull marina / Les édifices parlementaires de la marina de Hull

The Ottawa-Gatineau region is very fortunate to have a large system of bike paths that wind their way through parks and city streets and give cyclists breath-taking vistas. One summer evening, this is the scene that my wife and I admired as we peddled along the Ottawa River near the marina in the Hull sector of Gatineau. We had the impression that we were far away in the countryside when in fact we were right in the centre of a bustling city. Watercolour, 15.5 x 12 inches (38 x 30 cm).

La région Ottawa-Gatineau est très fortunée d'avoir un grand nombre de sentiers cyclables qui traversent les parcs et les rues de la ville et qui donnent les cyclists les panoramas fabuleuses. Une soirée d'été, ma femme et moi avons pris une promenade sur un sentier qui longe la Rivière des outaouais près de la marina de Hull. On avait l'impression qu'on étaient loin dans la campagne mais en réalité, on étaient au plein centre de la ville. Aquarelle, 15.5 x 12 pouces (38 x 30 cm).

Indigo Parliament / Le parlement à l'indigo

After more than 33 years, I've retired from a career at the Canadian Parliament as a procedural clerk. In looking back, I can say that it was a very special place to work, an environment with a lot of dedicated individuals working within the fabric of history but anchored in the reality of present day pressures. Over the past years, I've painted a few scenes of "the Hill" - like the one above. This one tries to evoke the quiet calm in front of the Centre Block after a late-night sitting. Après plus de 33 ans, j'ai terminé mon carrière à titre de greffier à la procédure au Parlement canadien. En reflétant, c'est un endroit spécial où plusieurs individus dédiés travail dans un milieu historique. Mais leur travail est bien fondé dans la réalité et les tensions d'aujourd'hui. À travers des années, j'ai peinturé quelques scènes de la "Colline parlementaire", comme celui-ci. Cette peinture évoque l'atomosphère calme en avant de l'Édifice du Centre après une longue séance.
