Michael's Scroll

Hi. You may have noticed that I haven't posted much here lately. But I have been busy sketching and posting on another site which I call Michael's Scroll. Initially, it was just for sketches but it has evolved into the place where almost all of my artwork is posted. I hope you'll visit it.

Salut.

Rideau Canal by the Pretoria Bridge / Le canal Rideau près du pont Pretoria

I didn't want to let winter slip by without making another painting of the Rideau Canal skateway in downtown Ottawa. The skateway is such a beautiful icy promenade that winds its way through the city for about 10 km. It has no equivalent in the entire world. (And I'm not exaggerating either.) You can skate on it or just take a (slippery) stroll on it. There are warm-up cabins along the route as well as places where you can get a hot chocolate or some food. This scene is from a pedestian walkway overlooking the Pretoria Bridge and old Ottawa East. The trees here have alway impressed me; they might have been growing in the same spot when the canal was built in the 1830s! The bridge also impressed me when I was a child - it looked like part of a castle drawbridge. Probably kids today have the same impression.
